This skinny virgin cosmopolitan recipe not only look beautifuland light, but also so quick and easy to make. You only need a couple of ingredients and a few minutes to make this drink for your next party.
I don’t know about you, but I have been fully embracing the holiday spirit this year, translated: I have been eating lots and LOTS of christmas cookies! So to balance it all out a little bit I thought making a lighter version of some of my favorite party drinks, like this virgin cosmo, would be a great idea.
I am notoriously not a dieter. I love heathy food, but hate when a food is made “light” and it basically means that it tastes terrible now. Don’t even get me started on light ranch. Blech. Anyway, drinks are one thing that I think lighten up really well and it was so fun to figure out how to make them, fun, festive and much lighter versions of the real thing.
This recipe can take out a little, more, or even most of the calories in this drink depending on how you want to make it. I will go over the options below but regardless which you choose, the BEST part of this recipe has to be how simple it is! You can get all the wow factor of a fancy drink with just two main ingredients and whatever you want to use to garnish.
The non-alcoholic cosmopolitan is perfect to serve at a party, bridal shower, or girls night right alongside the traditional cocktails so that you have a fun drink option everyone can enjoy. Just make sure the options are clearly marked so there is no mix up!
To make a Skinny Cosmo Mocktail, you need two main ingredients: cranberry juice and lime sparkling water.
The cranberry juice is where you will choose just how many calories you want to cut in the drink. There are usually 3 options for cranberry juice at the grocery store (I shopped at Walmart.) You will find a regular (full calorie version,) a light which has about 1/3 less calories, and a diet which the sugar is replaced with artificial sweetener and has about 5 calories a serving. You can pick any of these and you will still have a lighter, “skinny” drink because you will be mixing it with lime sparking water which has 0 calories so just by the nature of the recipe, you are reducing the calories by around 1/4-1/3. If you use light or diet cranberry juice you are going to reduce the calories by 1/2 – 2/3 or diet will get you down to only a couple of calories per drink. It is up to you which way you want to go! I think the diet has a little too much of an artificial taste for me, but if you are really cutting calories then this might be your choice.
I always choose Dasani sparkling water in lime. I did the Whole30 food challenge back in September, and tried a lot of different sparkling waters. I love the carbonation of soda and since it was banned on the challenge I tried sparkling water to get my fizzy fix and found that I definitely preferred some brands and flavors over others. Since they have no artificial sweeteners sometimes they seem a little bitter, but Dasani was one of the best. It was full of flavor and had the fizz that I love. Of course it has zero calories as I mentioned above so it is perfect to lighten up this drink while still adding flavor instead of diluting it.
Once you combine the two, you can use fresh cranberries and lime to garnish. If you freeze the cranberries they are perfect to make the drink beautiful and keep it chilled! And since they float on the top of the juice, they look heavenly when you add them.
I hope you really enjoy this virgin cocktail and make sure to check out my other non-alcoholic cocktail recipes below!
